Mullein
- Herbal Lung Supplement Notes
Soothing, decongestant, antibiotic lymphatic
cleanser
Mullein leaf soothes irritated and painful
mucous membranes. It is anti-inflammatory and
protects sinus membranes, for instance. Thus,
potent allergens cause less distress.
Mullein is especially friendly to the lungs.
It is a good respiratory decongestant and
expectorant. Mullein has been found to inhibit
bacteria including tuberculosis. It is also
effective against viral infections.
Its ability to reduce swelling makes it
helpful for diarrhea, water retention,
bronchitis, arthritis, etc.
Mullein has been used externally in poultices
for difficult wounds. Dr. John Christopher
mixed it 4:1 with lobelia to clear congested
lymph nodes. He found that they sometimes
cleared internally but in weaker individuals,
formed a path to the skin and drained
externally.
Mullein is soothing, drying (astringent) and
anti-inflammatory. This makes it ideal for use
with hemorrhoids as well.
Research: According to
