Is Your Immune System Prepared for
the Fall? Horizons, September 2004

New Cellular Build Can
Help
Changing seasons can
stress our immune systems. This fall, make sure your
immune system is prepared for whatever blows its way
by supporting it with Nature’s Sunshine’s
immune-enhancing products. Two new formulas provide
the body with key nutrients it needs to stay healthy
and maintain its defenses. NSP products will help give
your body the energy it needs to be active and help
you find calm and rest at the end of the day.
Nucleotides, Intestinal Health and
Cell Regeneration Nucleotides are especially important
in areas of the body where rapid cell division is
necessary, such as in the intestinal system, where the
lining of the GI tract renews itself about once a
week. Supplemental nucleotides can help support the
intestinal system in its renewal process by supplying
readily available components for the new cells. In the
intestinal system, Cellular Build may:
• Enhance digestion.
• Enhance the uptake of nutrients.
• Enhance gut growth and enzyme activity.
• Enhance intestinal renewal process.
• Enhance the growth of beneficial microorganisms.
Nucleotides are also beneficial anytime the body is
physically stressed. Examples of physical stress
include exercise, working long hours and more. During
these times the body works to renew and regenerate
itself. Nucleotides are its building blocks.
Cellular Build (Nucleotide
Formula)—Building
Blocks for Regeneration and Renewal NSP Cellular Build
supports whole-body health by providing dietary
sources of nucleotides—important building blocks the
body needs to renew itself—along with the
immune-enhancing properties of astragalus, milk
thistle and fructo-oligosaccharides (FOS).
What Are Nucleotides? Nucleotides are
the building blocks of DNA and RNA—the compounds that
store our genetic information. Whenever a cell
divides, the body needs nucleotides to make a complete
copy of DNA for the new cell. The body can manufacture
some amounts of nucleotides, reuse nucleotides and
obtain nucleotides from the diet.
At times of stress or challenge, the
need for new cells increases, requiring millions and
millions of nucleotides. Manufacturing new nucleotides
requires a lot of time and energy for an already
stressed body. Dietary nucleotides help reduce the
time and energy required for cell multiplication and
maintaining health.
How Can Nucleotides Support
My Immune System?
Studies show that nucleotides have a modulatory effect
on the immune system and that they are important in
the development of immunity in infants. Human milk
contains high concentrations of nucleotides, and some
infant formulas are supplemented with nucleotides for
this reason.
Nucleotides also support the
gastrointestinal (GI) tract in all its functions,
including its immune-enhancing role. The
gastrointestinal tract runs from the esophagus to the
large intestine. The entire GI tract is lined with a
mucous membrane, which is one of the body’s first
lines of defense. This mucous membrane renews itself
every 5–7 days. A ready supply of nucleotides aids in
this renewal and ensures that the membrane can do its
job of protecting the body and maintaining its
functions.
